Brisbane to host international research congress in August

The 2006 Australian of the Year Professor Ian Frazer and Queensland Chief Scientist Professor Peter Andrews are among experts from around the world who will speak at a major international congress on research to be held in Brisbane in August.

Global research opportunities and challenges will be under the spotlight at the International Network of Research Management Societies’ (INORMS) inaugural Congress, to be held at Sofitel Brisbane from August 22-25.

The INORMS congress features scientists, policy makers, research leaders and managers from around the world who will share a diverse set of experiences and perspectives of best practice in research management, policy and leadership to enhance the quality of outcomes for dollars spent on R&D.

Key speakers include:

  • Georges Bingen from the European Commission
  • Dr Nina Kancewicz-Hoffman from the European Science Foundation
  • Dr Peter Hǿj from the Australian Research Council
  • Professor Jennifer Graves from Australian National University
  • Professor Richard Head from CSIRO

At least 400 delegates have registered for the Congress and represent over 20 countries, including the UK, USA, Canada, South Africa, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, India, Korea, China, Japan, Bangladesh, Oman, New Zealand and Australia.

Queensland’s Department of State Development Trade and Innovation, the Australian Research Council, CSIRO National Research Flagships and the Australian Research Management Society are major sponsors of the INORMS congress.
